'The Desert Winds (Stop the Metal Rusting)'

about

'In August 2014 UK-born sound recordist Simon Whetham took a trip to remote areas of South Australia to decompress from the intensity of the workshop and performance project he was working on in Victoria, Australia.
Stopping often, camping and walking in the region, he inevitably began recording sonic activities. In remote areas these could only be captured with contact microphones, recording sound vibrations directly through the surfaces of objects, and hydrophones, capturing underwater sounds.
The piece is intentionally quiet in places, allowing you to hear the sounds around you as well as the recorded activity, but there are loud sections that show the force of natural phenomena on objects, causing them to resonate throughout their structure, and taking you inside the very fabric of the material they are constructed from.'
